    Hey all,

I'm looking to replace a bespoke PHP discussion board (basically a guestbook on steroids) with bbPress, but I want to maintain the same format of by discussion board as it's been around for 12 years.

    http://bulldogs.rleague.com/ is the place.

Anyway, I basically want to use the bbPress functionality for users, moderation and the like but I only need a single "topic" and nothing more. All of the notions of multiple forums and multiple discussions are not needed, it's just one discussion.

So, how can I disable/edit/cripple bbPress so that it looks like a single discussion only? Any ideas?

    Cheers,
    Chris.

Might I add, I'm willing to pay someone to help out on this.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

I have an alternate view on this now.

All I want is for http://www.domain.com/bbPress/ to always be what would normally be displayed at http://www.domain.com/bbPress/topic.php?id=2.

I know how to manipulate the templates sufficiently to cripple the navigation and make it look like there is only one page, but I don't know how to change front-page.php (as referred to in index.php) to essentially be topic.php?id=2 so that is the default index view.

    Any ideas?

This is an inherently very bad idea.

bbPress can't be locked down that much without hacking the core and then it's useless because you can't upgrade even for security reasons.

    Get a guestbook program instead.

A single topic with thousands of posts it going to be overwhelming.

_ck_, we've been operating in this format for over 12 years, the users in this particular community love the format and find it part of the attraction.

I've basically got it happening by replacing the current index.php with a new one that simply redirects to topic.php?id=2. I editted the template files to remove almost all of the navigation that would be used to move around a forum and it essentially works as I expected it to. I haven't had to mess with any core files other than index.php, but that's hardly insurmountable.

For cleanliness I would have preferred to avoid the redirect. I could do this via a rewrite condition but I don't know if that will break the tool.

I don't want to use a guestbook program because it doesn't give me the community and moderation features I am after.

    Can't, or won't?

    Thanks for your help.
