    I saw CK's advice last month to patch bbPress versions 0.9 with the block long queries mini plug-in on the bbPress forum, http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-103-released

    My question is how this security update should be properly installed? Copy the text to a file called "block-long-queries.php", then upload to the my-plugins directory and activate?

    Is there a way to test that the plugin is running effectively?

    Thanks for any input.

    Yup, just put it into a file ending in .php and upload it to my-plugins

    You should put a leading underscore in the filename to make it auto-run before everything else.

    ie. _block-long_queries.php

    You can test if it's working by doing something like this to your url

    /forum/?eval()

    You can test if it's working by doing something like this to your url

    /forum/?eval()

    I appended that to the end of my forum's url and it comes back with a page that says, "forum not found". Is that what we want to see?

    No it should be an empty page with possibly an browser error.

    look at your list of plugins and make sure it's there/running.

    Plugins with an underscore can only be in the topmost my-plugins directory, you cannot put them in sub-directories under it.

    Ok, I had the plugin in a folder called "_blocklongqueries" and moved the plugin without folder to the top. Yes, now running the "?eval()" brings up a blank page in Chrome. Neato bandito! Resolved. Thank-you.
