Hello _ck_,

I have enjoyed using or trying out some of your plugins, however, I just intergrated my bbpress into the buddypress.

I am currently using:

Wordpress MU 2.7.1
BuddyPress 1.0.2
BBPress 1.0 (Current Latest Version)

In buddypress we have the option of groups, so there can be group admins and each group can have their own forum/topics within these groups. The forums/topics created within these groups are actually on the bbpress side, but integrated visually into the buddypress's template themes side. Which I am sure that you are aware of all that.

I don't know if your doing any work for buddypress (bppress), as I see that most of your plugins are for bbpress.

I have tried using your bbpress signature plugin, but bppress uses a totally different profile system and doesnt integrate or use the wp-press mu's actual profile system. So, BP PRESS has its own profile system/fields. Also, BPPress is limited in features that it allows and doesn't integrate everything from BBPRESS. So, most of the BBPRESS plugins won't even integrate within BPPRESS properly. So, any plugins intended for bppress to work with bppress must be coded to work with bppress for it to show up. The BPPRESS plugins are installed into the wp-press mu's plugins.

I was wondering, if you had any intention of creating a bppress signature plugin, since bbpress plugins won't show up in buddypress.

I had written a post in regards to this back at buddypress forums:

http://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3416#post-18707

r-a-y recommended in that replied posts that:

One way of doing this is to create a new textarea profile field entitled "Signature" and call it within each BP component you want to use it in.

I know one of the BP mods, John James Jacoby, does this for one of his BP sites, specifically the bbPress forums (eg. a forum thread - http://delsolownersclub.com/discussions/topic/what-will-your-next-mugen-part-be), but I believe he only uses it for the bbPress forums and nowhere else across that BP site.

However, I don't think it would be *too* hard to call it within the group forums and the wire (I say *too* hard with a little skeptism! hehe). You just would need to edit your BP theme in a number of places to do so.

r-a-y

So, that would be great if there was a way to have the code embedded of a certain BP PRESS profile field to automatically post after each of the users posts. So, I guess if the user left that field blank in their buddy press profile, then it would not show up in the bottom of their posts.

Keep in mind that profiles in the wp-press or bbpress don't show up in the buddypress profile areas. So, they are all separate, but the new group forums discussion area utilizes the bbpress forums to create (multiple) new topics in the bbpress board but visually embedded into the bppress themed areas.

So... is this something that you might be interested in creating or designing, as I am looking for something for my website that will do this.

I appreciate any help in the matter.

The Skeleton barebone bp-press plugin:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-skeleton-component/

Hey _ck_, I could use your help if you have some time. The bbGroups project that I just announced has forum moderators as part of the package. Perhaps if you have the time and the willingness, you could take a look at that area of the plugin. It seems to be working OK but my skill set in bbpress is not exactly up to your level yet.

The functions that manage group forum moderation are these:

oci_capability_filter() - a bb filter for 'bb_current_user_can'

oci_staff_has_capability() - a function that just looks up what capabilities a forum moderator should have such as 'close_topic', 'delete_post', 'edit_post'

oci_is_user_staff() - the moderator status is granted if the user is either a bp group admin or moderator and the 'staff' status is stored in user meta as an array of forum ids for any user who has staff status.

You'll see these things in the zip package that is available in my previous post in this thread. I also stuck the three fns up here: http://pastie.org/391602

Does this look like it's robust enough and am I missing something dumb and obvious?

BuddyPress Group Forums for bbPress

I've got this plugin up to something testable and releaseable. v0.21
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enable BuddyPress group forum features in bbPress.

BuddyPress has three types of groups. Public, Private and Hidden. In all three cases users must be members of a group to participate in group forum conversations.

These two plugins modify a standard bbPress forum installation to allow
BuddyPress group members to carry on discussions in bbPress.

BuddyPress public groups will be read only in bbPress. Anyone wishing to participatein a public group discussion must be a member of that group in bp.

BuddyPress private and hidden groups will be hidden in bbPress. Only members of these groups will see the forums and be able to participate.

BuddyPress group admins and mods have moderator privileges in bbPress.
The moderator role is restricted to their group forum.

I don't mind at all.

You might also be interested in knowing I am adding a feature to Hidden Forums that allows a forum to become semi-private in that members can only see messages started by mods/admin and then when they post a topic, only the mods/admin can see/respond to it for them. Sort of like a semi-private support forum.

Haven't had much time to finish/test it but should be ready by end of February.

Howdy, I've developed a plugin for buddypress and bbpress called bp group forums. It uses the group forums in buddypress and configures bbpress so that public, private and hidden forums are possible. It also implements group forum moderation for buddypress group admins and moderators. I've done the link and configuration between bp and bbpress.

The public group forums are configured to be read only. The private and hidden bp group forums are configured to be hidden except for bp users who belong to that group.

I've implemented read only and hidden forums using your read-only-forums and hidden-forums plugins. I haven't even modified those two plugins at all. I just configure all the global vars before your plugins get triggered. Thanks for these by the way. I'm packaging up my plugin and I wanted to distribute your two plugins in the same zip as a convenience.

Do you mind? My stuff is GPL 3.0 licensed.

But the extend section of bbpress.org always has the newest, I don't keep different versions available (usually).
