_ck_ on "urgent call for donations towards a new monitor"

My monitor is suddenly starting to do some very bad things (like taking 30 minutes and a dozen tries to start up) and some very scary things, like a suddenly surge and reset like it's been hit with a huge dose static electricity - so if you've never donated towards one of my dozens of plugins for bbPress, now would be a great time. Otherwise it's going to be my rent money vs. a replacement display and that can't end well.

I've made a special Amazon paypage to chart how many donations because unfortunately there have only been like 15 general donations during the past year (but many thanks to you who gave).

I'm going to hate it when this thing finally fails - it's the last, best CRT monitor ever made, the Sony FW900 24" widescreen CRT. They don't make them like that anymore. True colors, deepest blacks you've ever seen. Even high end LCD monitors still can't touch it.

Speaking of LCD, since that's obviously what I am going to have to get now, I'm interested in suggestions but it's going to have to be under $400 and at least 24". I was thinking of getting the 26" Soyo because it's $350-400 and my aging eyes could use those large pixels.

Here's hoping this thing can last through New Years but I suspect not. It's probably the cold affecting it. Last night I tried heating it up with a portable electric heater and that seemed to shorten the 30 minutes of trying to start it down to 10 minutes.

I activated mini-track and the statistics on the bottom of my page are wrong/outdated
(they show users that do not even exist anymore)

I have tried to do a reset, but the status still remain the same

I did use an older version of mini-track a long time ago, perhaps these stats are based on that old info ?

How can I reset this information ?

have a look at http://forums.corelan.be:8800

It will be pretty straightforward and I can provide some example of what I want.

Please get in touch if you will be willing to help for a moderate fee.

My email is: info (at) naijanded (dot) com

bbPress is truly excellent.

I am not a programmer, and I need very basic help. How can I remove certain things from my forum, such as

'be brief and descriptive'
hot tags
latest posts (I want people to search for them; rather, I want it to be clear-cut, if that makes sense)
even things like titles ('member,' 'moderator')

How can I have a big announcement at the top of my forum? I want to announce that people do not need to give personal info when they register. Also I want to make a kind of announcement to deter evil.

I do not know what CSS is.

bbPress turns 2 years old today!!!

It's been a big year with new features being added at a rapid pace thanks to hard work by Sam and Mike. It's an easy guess that we should see a stable 1.0 beta by the end of 2008.

But don't let the modest sounding "1.0" fool you, it's practically a "2.0" inside with all the changes since 0.9 including BackPress integration (merges core functions from WordPress) and an XML-RPC api like WordPress as well.

While Matt Mullenweg (Automattic/WordPress founder) created bbPress during Christmas 2004 to power WordPress.org, version 0.7.2 (nicknamed “bix”) was only officially released for public consumption on Saturday October 14th 2006 making it two years old today.

Regardless of being summarily deleted from Wikipedia this year, bbPress has never been more popular. I've been tracking bbPress growth via the Top 100 and Top 1000 lists for over a year now and this month shows the list surging to nearly 5000 forums, with bbPress being used in over 80 countries and in dozens of languages.

Roughly 10 sites a day have installed bbPress over the past two years and over 70% them continue to use it. The largest bbPress forum is about to break a million posts by the end of the year and just to be on the Top 100, a forum now needs at least 7000 posts.

bbPress hosted forums via TalkPress (ala WordPress.com) are on the horizon, and with new forum conversion software being developed and more plugins and themes available than ever before, bbPress will definitely make it's mark in 2009 and should have a very exciting third year!
